Though a game that revolves around doing farm chores might sound ridiculously boring, somehow they managed to make an entertaining, stylish, successful game franchise around the concept. There is a distinct flavor of the spiritual in the Harvest Moon games the player can typically meet a variety of imps, sprites, spirits, fairies, and even the Harvest Goddess, most of which are friendly and will help you out if you give offerings or make an effort to befriend them. However, the "business" aspects of play are not nearly the full scope of the game the social aspect of the series is one of its biggest draws. The player must clear his/her fields, plant crops, raise livestock like cows, sheep, and chickens, care for pets like horses and dogs, and gather materials from the countryside to help improve his/her house or sell for extra cash.

It has a lot of mods that can make it a more relaxing game though so if you wanna turn it into a solely base building type game, you can definitely do so with the help of mods that are readily available on the steam workshop. They're both really fun and especially with Animal Parade, you can have TWO children and they look different based on who you marry.ĭon't starve/ Don't starve together: A much darker style and doesn't focus so much on the farming aspect but more on base building and being self-sufficient. Slightly newer Harvest Moon games that I would recommend would be the Tree of Tranquility game and Animal Parade game. It's an old game but I think it's still really good, and was ahead of its time imo. Harvest Moon DS or Harvest Moon DS cute offers a similar level of freedom in terms of customization on your farmland.
